Talents Within - Sport Camp for Underprivileged Children

Forty campers arrive from the areas of Regent Park, Parkdale, Jane/Finch corridor and the Toronto Children's Aid Society. The children range in age from 8 to 11 and are selected by their school principals, social workers, and ministers. The supervisor selects the children based on who they feel would benefit the most from Talents Within, who will attend the programme for 6 weeks, and who will want to attend. Campers may be involved with the Children’s Aid Society, have behavioural difficulties, or may simply need a positive influence in their lives.

Our campers enter the program at ages 8,9 thus allowing them 2-3 years to benefit from the 6 week summer session and winter session. Upon a camper's conclusion at Talents Within, our goal is to locate a sport league and allow the Talents Within camper a chance to participate in that league. Funding for this outreach program is a future goal. This will allow the camper to continue on a positive track.
