Volunteer at Camp
Are you interested in volunteering
for Talents Within?
We are currently looking for volunteers who would like to
help run our day camp this summer. If you are interested,
please call our office or
e-mail the
Camp Director (campdirector@talentswithin.ca). You can also
fill out the
application and
reference form and either mail or fax them to our office.
Volunteer Requirements
1. Complete a volunteer application.
2. Be above 15 years of age.
3. Provide own transportation to and from the facilities and
activities
4. Provide a Criminal Record Search
5. Complete reference form
6. Interview by Camp Director
7. Sign the volunteer waiver consent form.
8. Must have some skill in athletics or the afternoon
activities.
Qualities of a Good Volunteer
- Genuine liking of children
- Enjoy being outdoors
- Willing to teach skills
- Safety conscious
- Ability to work well with others
- Some understanding of child development and age
appropriate behaviour
- Maturity
Expectations of Volunteers
- Energetic
- Demonstrate leadership, initiative, enthusiasm and a
positive attitude
- Participate in all activities
- Be a positive role model
- Refrain from using poor language
- Allow counselors to deal with any behavioural issues
- Co-operate with counselors
- Support campers ideas and abilities
- Loyalty to Talents Withinˇ¦s mission and goals
Rules and Regulations for
Volunteers
- Follow all federal and provincial laws including the
criminal code
- Talents Within is a non-smoking camp. Volunteers are not
permitted to smoke
- No weapons are allowed in the camp area
- No alcohol or illicit drugs allowed in the camp area
- Volunteers may not be under the influence of any alcohol
or non-prescription drugs
- Volunteers may never use any physical force or means to
control or discipline a camper
Possible Volunteer Roles and Duties
- Give support to staff
- Encourage and support children in their swim and talent
sport instruction
- Lead afternoon activities (For example, someone who is
talented in dancing may want to bring in music and
choreograph a dance for the children to do)
- Help supervise the children and ensure safety
- Chaperone the campers on outings (For example, to
Toronto Island or to a Toronto Argoˇ¦s football game)
- Help set up and clean up activities
